Oratory Performance
This is the first unit we study each year. The focus is on learning to perform only with the use of the students voice. We work on fundamental skills such as, projection, vocal manipulation, dynamics and character development. The unit culminates in a puppet show performance for the pre-k classes.
Stage Movement
This unit focuses on movement within a performance environment. We start off with the movement isolation of mime, and progress through stage falls, rolls and end with stage combat. Students will be graded on performances in each one of the sub-sets, culminating in a group project involving all techniques covered.
Ashland Optimist Speech Contest
Last year, we were proud to host our first ever speech contest sponsored by the Ashland Optimists Club. Students compete against one another in front of a panel of judges in three different categories: Comedic, Dramatic, and Original Work on a designated theme.
Musical
This unit focuses on the two remaining fundamental skill sets for musical theatre. Singing and Dancing isolated as skill sets and then combined into a preliminary performance before culminating in performances for the primary during Dr. Seuss Week and the Pre-K Classes in the auditorium.
Other Projects
Semester Final
We end our second semester with solo performances incorporating aspects of all skills covered in this course. Performers are provided feedback on how to improve their level of performance from multiple sources.
